A Personal Review of The Future of Us!
"I loved The Future of Us. It was fun and hilarious to read about the 1990s and the fact characters of the book made comments like "what's a blog" and "Oh my god i have computer in my car!" when seeing the future. The book made me laugh out loud at times. The ending was a bit lame but I'm generally a lover of happy endings and I can't imagine the book ending without the two main characters ending up together! Having said that, my friend let her 13 year old daughter read it. I think this is totally inappropriate! The book has references to teenage pregnancy (Emma discovered on Facebook that her best friend Kellan got pregnant at 16!, mature relationships (the scene between Emma and her first boyfriend - I forget his name - on the park bench, and homosexuality (Josh discovers his brother is gay on Facebook). Thirteen year old kids are not ready and mature enough to read and understand these kind of issues. This book should be restricted to older teens (16+).

I completely disagree with this lady. First of all, te book wasn't that hilarious but most importantly, other books like Twilight have a stronger sexual content. I think that a thirteen year old is mature enough to read this book.
ReplyDeleteI wrote the comment first Ms. Jill

DeleteI disagree with this woman. She states that 13 is too young to read a book about teenage pregnancy or homo. But I don't think so. Now a day, 13 already knows a lot of thing about sex. I think she should not underestimate her daughter. Not only over 16 is erotic. -tom
ReplyDeletegood tom :)
DeleteYeah i also disagree with the lady. Awesome comment Tom!
DeleteIt's hard to decide but i think i have to disagree with this lady who exclaims that this book has to be restricted to older teens (16+), because in this modern days, even little kids knows about this mature things such as having a relationship or having a baby. Obviously, many movies that allows up to age 13 involves lots of inappropriate things too and it's too late to over protect the kids. However, some parents are really over protective (like, Josh's parent) even though the kids already knows about all this mature stuff. This lady really should think about this generation and how the kids grow faster than the old days.
ReplyDelete^THIS. Hahaha I agree with Min Joo :)

DeleteJi Young -__- You didn't log out after you used my Mac Book!! no wonder why it said your name xDDD thanks Ji Young! <3
DeleteI agree with you Tom. Young teenagers these days are very mature and I believe books like The Future Of Us are beneficial for them because it improves their vocabulary and it gives them some life lessons/messages that the author set out throughout the novel.
DeleteI disagree because with what the lady said.. Who said 13 yr old kids couldn't read it? She should think about it more before she says it... does that make scene at all????? It's hard to pick though.... -_-'
ReplyDeleteThe lady clearly does not know that many teenage books contain sexual ideas. In my opinion, she could be a bit more flexible. Clearly she has not seen what other teenage books have to offer.
ReplyDeletenice point Gabriel!
DeleteI AGREE WITH YOU!
DeleteI agree with the beginning of this lady's personal review where she talks about how the book was hilarious and fun to read. However when she began complaining about 13 year old's reading this book it made me change my view on her opinion. I believe it is good for young teenagers to read these types of books to understand the morals and influential messages authors set out throughout the novels. So basically, yeah she annoyed me.
ReplyDeleteShe annoyed me too :)
DeleteShe totally annoyed me also! :D
Deletei agree that the book was enjoyable and funny to read. but, i think that the lady is wrong because nowadays 13 year old people learn about sex in classes which indicates that they already know about sex pretty well. so i think it's ok if a 13 year old read it.
ReplyDeleteGood amara :)
DeleteYah i agree with Amro. when i was year 6 the principle forced us to know about different genders (puberty) and about sex :P
DeleteSorry Amro**

ReplyDeletei agree with this lady's opinion about how this book was hilarious but totally disagree with the last part. these days teenagers are too exposed about sex through movies and novels, and anyway they learn about it already in classes. if they were actually paying attention in classes they will all know about it. so i think she was being a bit too over protective, and 13 years old knows enough to read this book.-SUNHEE- i always forgot to write my name ahh
ReplyDeletei agree with sun hee. the last part what the lady said i also disagree
DeleteI agree!

DeleteI agree with you!! It is better to know so you can protect yourself in the future @v@
DeleteI disagree with this lady, most of the kids nowadays they already know all about the sex stuff from movies, books or their older brother and sister or even from TV. Also in their classes at school. She was too over protective. 13 is already suite to read this book...

Deletei agree!good job najiha! maybe kids learn from seniors in school too -SUNHEE-
DeleteOh yes that's true.
DeleteThis is so true! This lady was being so over protective. She has to understand that her 13 year olds are very mature!
DeleteI disagree with the lady. 13 years old (year 8 ) has the right to know about sex, pregnancy as most of the kids learn this in movie, internet. This book is totally not inappropriate and helps the students to know more between the two different genders. Also i think the lady's a bit over protective about her daughter :D
ReplyDeleteI agree! i think kids learn about sex in most in internet as it is opened to anyone so she should more worry about learning through internet than this book -SUNHEE-
DeleteI agree, this book is realistic and its very smart how it uses experiences that occur to everyday teenagers' lives. Although the examples of the sexual references in the book may not happen to a lot of 13 year olds, it gives them a clue what do if it were to happen to them and how what you do affects your reputation and thoughts from others. Furthermore, from the beginning of the teenage years, anytime soon could we be exposed to these scenarios.
DeleteI also disagree with the lady because I think she is too protective to her daughter. YEAR 8 students are about 13 or 14, and they get to know sex by watching a movie, book, or internet. It is okay to know that kind of stuffs in this age I guess.. Also, the teen pregnancy and sex make students get to know different gender friends also. :)
ReplyDeletetotally agree with how you said she's over protective :)
DeleteI agree with you guys! :)
